Chrysler Grand Voyager Radio Installation Kit}

Submitted by: Jack Wylde

Grand voyager otherwise known as Chrysler Voyager is manufactured by the American automaker Chrysler. It is in the automobile market from the beginning of 1925. It was classified as a minivan and known to be a very useful automobile for transporting small to medium loads. It was released in the late 1980s and since then, has been undergoing a lot of changes periodically. Based on the extent of modifications there were many generations. There are five generations of the Grand Voyager. The automatic transmissions are also a part of the features the car is provided with. The Grand Voyager manufactured during the period 2002-2007 have smaller wheel base. The market of Chrysler has not been very successful in North America but still survives in Mexico and most of Europe.

The Grand voyager was one of the successful minivans manufactured and was also placed 13th in the list of best cars in America. The Chrysler manufacturing units in the Europe simultaneously launched the vehicle in the year 1988. There was slight difference in the external appearance of the head lights and also its grillies. The European version of the Voyager was running on different engines than that used in the American version. It had manual transmission too. The Voyager has either three of five doors. The assembly of the parts was made in Missouri in the USA and Austria. The modifications made in 2002 were that those of airbags that would be released in case of both side and front impact. The navigation system was also available. The facility for playing movies for the rear passengers was also available.

The Voyager could accommodate three rows of seats. Two in the front and three behind were present normally. An additional third row of seats could be added when necessary. The voyager introduced this third row with wheels so that it could be removed and installed easily. The seat also weighs less for easy handling. On removal of the third row there is a lot of room for transporting materials. This was very advantageous. The safety of the voyager always posed a problem. In the late 1990s the car had fared to bad that it earned zero points and after some changes in front portion of the car, it did a little better although not highly satisfying.

The child safety was better in the later versions of the Voyager. It had child lock for all its sliding doors. The radio dash kit was also one comfortable feature. It supports the radio with stereo, and also had four speakers which were spread front and rear of the car. The car was available in different colour finishes and textures. The customer could get radio dash kits in similar textures. It is available with adaptors. The purpose of adaptors is to alter the apertures of the dash board for the radio and CD player. Air conditioning is also available. The brake system is advance with disc type brakes for rear tyres too. There are facilities to interlock the tyres when parked on inclined surfaces.

Preventing Squatters In Your Rental Property

Submitted by: Ian Grainger

At the moment there are around 20,000 squatters illegally living in residential and commercial rental properties according to leading insurance companies in the United Kingdom.

If we make the assumption that there are probably four squatters in each location then as many as 5,000 owners of rental property are experiencing a loss of rent, reduced property values and potential damage from unwelcome, uninvited tenants .

Landlords need to take steps to prevent squatters becoming a problem in their properties, firstly through common sense and through legal means and insurance protection.

First, the common sense methods have to be considered. Preventing unauthorised access to the property is obviously key. When the property is empty ensure that all windows are closed and, if lockable, locked. Do not leave keys in doors, even on the inside, especially when close to windows as they could smashed and reached through to gain access. As much as a landlord might want to keep a property ventilated by leaving windows even slightly open, it is an invitation to squatters and shouldn t be risked.

Ensuring all external doors are well protected is also vital. That s why all locks should be five lever mortice locks and not low quality rim latches which are easily broken by determined squatters.

With your property as secure as possible it is important to not leave open invitations to squatters in the form obvious signs that the property is unoccupied. Therefore weekly inspections of the property are a good idea to give the impression that there is often someone in and around the property.

This will also give the landlord a good opportunity to remove those signs of unoccupancy like build up of junk mail and free newspapers.

Now landlords need to look at their insurance policies. If they don t cover against malicious damage then that s the first thing that needs to be changed, and it needs to be clarified whether or not this will include damage caused by squatters.

It also needs to be checked whether or not the policy applies during periods of extended unoccupancy.

With these points clarified landlords are at least in a position where they are covered for damage and for costs incurred in regaining possession of their property from squatters. It is highly unlikely they will be covered for loss of rent during these periods, however.

Seeking independent professional advice before making decisions on property and liability insurance is a advisable. Asking insurance brokers what experience they have in residential or commercial property insurance is a good idea.

Speaking to a letting agent with experience in dealing with squatters is another good idea. Good letting agents will be able to advise you on insurance brokers to talk to, security and how to avoid void periods where there are no tenants, thus reducing the risk of attracting squatters to a property.

While being a landlord can be a lucrative business to be in, providing good income and investment values, covering one s self against as many possible issues as possible is very important.

Australian government announces $52.5 million financial assistance package for Ford

Friday, May 5, 2006

A BF Falcon, whose replacement will be partly paid for by the Australian government

Australian Prime Minister John Howard and federal industry minister Ian MacDonald today announced that the federal government would be providing Ford Australia with a AU$52.5 million (US$40.4 million) “financial assistance package”. Additional assistance will also be provided by the Victorian state government.

According to Mr Howard, the injection will secure Ford’s manufacturing operations in Australia “for the long term”.

From the package, AU$40 million will be used for the design and manufacture of Ford’s next model Falcon and Territory vehicles, which will be built in Australia.

Despite being given a major facelift in 2002 and another in 2005, the Falcon’s bodyshell dates back to 1998. The current Falcon will need to serve the company until at least 2007 when the new model is anticipated. In the meantime, it will face stiff competition from the completely new Holden Commodore (the Falcon’s major competitor) which will be released in the second half of this year.

The additional AU$12.5 million will be spent on the development of a light commercial vehicle platform, which will be built overseas and marketed to around 80 countries. Mr Howard said that the light commercial project would involve construction of a research and development centre, which will become the base for R&D projects in the region.

Mr MacFarlane said that the research facility was exciting for Australia and that it would put the Australian automotive in the spotlight.

“The funding has helped Ford Australia secure the largest automotive R&D project ever undertaken in Australia which is equally exciting news for local Ford employees and Australian component producers” he said.

“The project will see Ford Australia become a centre for automotive design and engineering excellence in the Asia Pacific region which will bring spin-off benefits for the broader industry,”

“This opportunity will put both Ford Australia, and the Australian automotive and components sectors on the world map as far as our automotive design and engineering capabilities are concerned.” Mr MacFarlane said.

Mr Howard claims that the projects will create 273 jobs and secure the future of the “iconic” Ford Falcon, which has been built in Australia since 1960.

The financial package is conditional upon Ford Australia giving the Australian automotive component industry an opportunity to supply components for the vehicles produced by the two projects.

Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) riders on the subway portions of the Red and Blue lines may see relief of the slow zone in the coming months. So-called “slow zones” are locations where trains travel at restricted speeds because of track work or deteriorating conditions.

The CTA is putting nearly US$15 millions towards renovation of the O’Hare to Clark/Lake portion of the Blue Line and Chicago to Belmont portions of the Red Line. Work will happen during off peak and overnight hours. The CTA says that one track operations and delays may occur.

“We have heard our customers’ frustration with slow zones and today we are acting to address their concerns,” said Chicago Transit Board chairperson Carole Brown. “I am pleased that we are able to leverage existing contracts to begin this work and I look forward to working with state lawmakers to increase transit investment to bring our entire system to a state of good repair.”

The Availability Aspect Of Information Assurance

Submitted by: JB Lee

Methods of preserving information and information systems are what describes Information Assurance. It confirms availability by sustaining a prompt and reliable channel to material and information services for entrusted users. By producing systematic veritability, entirety and accuracy and continuity of the material and data structures of the operating system, hardware, software and banked material, integrity is supported. Integrity can likewise secure against forbidden variation and destruction of material. Information assurance also permits acceptance by assuring a place’s certification to acquire distinct material from the architecture, and also by accommodating the validity of a communication or a document and its producer. Confidentiality is confirmed by not broadcasting data to disapproved organizations or functions. Information Assurance confirms non-repudiation, which is supporting proof of transfer to the sender of data and dispensing validation of identification to the recipient, to require neither recipient can later contest having analyzed the data. Information Assurance also includes providing for restoration of information systems by incorporating protection, detection, and reaction capabilities.

Information Assurance guarantees availability by sustaining an up-to-date and trustworthy channel to material and information services for certified users. The users ought have reliable connection to all hardware, software, services and information. Availability should be assessed for the overall systems, not just in terms of what is accessible to only mission-critical systems.

There are particular design principles that can boost availability. Elements and subsystems need be able to be gracefully restarted unplanned. Subsystems and components must comply with an open architecture and be individual from one other. Subordinately critical missions or processes should be isolated from more urgent ones, as well as more high-risk processes from those that are subordinately sensitive. Networks, functions, and material organization can also be optimized for mission availability. The system can be conformed to securely upgrade availability such that platforms, software and framework are formed as services such as cloud computing. Proficient utilization of assets and attaining singular outages transparent to the end user are selected advantages of services such as cloud computing. The more redundant the architecture the more error-resistant it is.

Timeliness, associated with Quality of Service (QoS), is significant because too overdue could possibly be just as unfavorable as not at all. To be able to conform to timeliness specifications, sometimes asset allotment could be altered. There are frequently compromises between QoS foundations and Information Assurance specifications.

Measurement and metrics must help identify the originators of availability issues and have to also cover process flaws. If the management and users are not complying with a fitting process, this can alter end-to-end availability even if the hardware, software and services may be reachable. Processes could assess for a massively considerable percentage of system interruption, so they must also be assessed for in the measurement of availability. There are lots examples of metrics that might be analyzed for availability, including: Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR, How long and frequently each subsystem was suspended, How many entitled users there are and their access level, Portion the system is down or information is not obtainable, Percentage the system is stopped or data is not available due to Security complications, Percentage of CPU used for Security measures.

Staffordshire hoard goes on display in British Museum in London, England

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Some of the notable pieces from the gold and silver hoard which was found in a private field in Staffordshire, England by a metal-detector user have been put on display in the British Museum in the city of London.

A photo of one of the gold pieces found in the Staffordshire hoard

Approximately 1,500 pieces were found in July of this year; the discovery was reported by news sources in September. The value of the hoard itself is still being checked. 18 of the pieces have now gone on display in the museum in London, England, and can be seen by members of the public.

Fred Johnson, who is the owner of the land in which the hoard was found, said: “It’s been an incredible experience. I’m overwhelmed by it all. They say this will change the history books; it’s a strange thought that came from something lying in my field all this time. I’m trying to keep a level head about it. I’m trying not to think at all about the value of it.” Johnson will share the sum of the value of the hoard with Terry Herbert, who found the pieces. The hoard is believed to date back to the 7th century.

“People laugh at metal detectorists,” Herbert said in late September. “I’ve had people go past and go ‘beep beep, he’s after pennies’. Well no, we are out there to find this kind of stuff and it is out there.”

What is interesting about the hoard as a whole is all the objects are associated with war to some or a greater extent.

Michael Lewis is the deputy head of the Department of Portable Antiquities in the British Museum. Speaking to BBC News about this event, he said: “The view is that it was probably in some sort of container but that has not survived and it was deliberately hoarded, put into the ground, what is unclear is why, and I suppose what we find is they would have been objects that had been stripped from the enemies’ weapons.

“What is interesting about the hoard as a whole is all the objects are associated with war to some or a greater extent. What the hoard consists of is mainly gold objects, there are some silver ones, basically they have been stripped from whatever they were on for instance sword fittings. What it demonstrates is that the Anglo-Saxons as a people were very able to do amazing things with objects and I reckon people nowadays attempting to make these objects would have great difficulty in doing so.”

The Finnish police isolated the ports of Katajanokka and Länsisatama on Saturday. The ports were isolated at around 9.30 p.m. local time and the isolation was called off at around 11.30 p.m.

Finnish police received reports from Estonia that a shipping container loaded with explosives could be coming from Estonia Saturday evening. They checked every truck that passed the ports with the assistance of the Border Guard Service. There are still two ships due to arrive in Helsinki tonight, but they were already checked in Tallinn.

Adam Folkard and Nick Norton ready for more men’s softball

Monday, March 19, 2012Hawker, Canberra — Coming off a national championship win for the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) men’s open team in mid-February, Australia men’s national softball team representatives Nick Norton and Adam Folkard are getting ready for more softball later this year, including the Australian club championships to be held in Brisbane in June.

Adam Folkard at the ACT versus Japan women’s game Image: Laura Hale.

Folkard and Norton have both won the World Championships and have each won a total of ten national championships with the ACT side. They are both named to the current men’s national team, which has roughly thirty players, and believe they are likely to survive the December cut down to eighteen players who will represent Australia at next year’s World Championship in Auckland, New Zealand.

The World Championship is one of the two most prestigious available to male softball players. The other is the International Softball Congress, an event Folkard and Norton have both competed at.

As national team representatives, there are a lot of expectations for them. In Australia, there is almost no financial support for the men’s game so they must cover most of their own costs, including travel to and from international competitions. According to Folkard’s father, these costs can be prohibitive. In one year, when Folkard was a representative on the men’s U18, U23 and Open team, it cost A$15,000 for travel and other expenses just for Folkard. When costs for bringing family members such as Folkard’s sisters to major international tournaments, the costs were even higher. Folkard, his father and Norton all joked this cost his father an investment property to allow Folkard to continue to compete at the highest level. Both Folkard and Norton currently work as tradesmen to support softball playing.

Beyond money, the national team requires players to be actively involved in wider softball community. Players must represent a club at the club championships in Brisbane if they want to retain a spot in the squad. Folkard plays for a Western Australian club and Norton plays for a Sydney based club, driving down from Canberra to play every Sunday during the season.

Folkard and Norton have both played softball at the highest level in the United States, where the men’s game is not yet fully professionalized but still presents more opportunities for players than are available at home. For several years, Folkard has gone to the United States for three-month stints, playing for teams in Chicago, Pennsylvania, and New York. One side he played was sponsored by Ernst and Young. Folkard currently plays for a Canadian side and has been trying to convince Norton, whom he has grown up playing softball with, to join him like Norton has done one previous season. According to Folkard, playing with a North American club has certain advantages. The clubs pay for his travel to and from Australia, and pay for Championship rings. When asked how North American clubs sign Australian players, he said they follow men’s softball in Australia and call up players to offer contracts. Australian men’s players gain additional exposure to potential clubs when they compete, with some sides approaching them during the North American season and seeking to contract them for the following season.

Both men would love the opportunity to play softball in the Olympics, but believe such an opportunity is unlikely. According to them, softball at the Olympics is a women’s game intrinsically linked to men’s baseball, and men’s softball is unlikely to ever be considered on the programme as a result.

Folkard and Norton both play for the same club in the ACT territory club competition. Their team has secured a grand final berth for the match in ten days. They are waiting to find out who they will play against based on a match this weekend. Both have previously won this competition.
